Dean's, President's Lists Students Named for UA Spring 2019 Term
A total of 11,406 students enrolled during the 2019 spring term at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean's List with an academic record of 3.5 or above or the President's List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's). The UA Dean's and President's lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or to undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.

The Citadel commissions the Army's newest officers
ROTC programs produce almost 70% of the officers that enter the Army each year, and more than 100 of them will come from The Citadel in 2019. Most of the 104 members of the Class of 2019 who accepted Army commissions participated in the commissioning ceremony held on Friday, May 3 in McAlister Field House. A small number will accept their commissions later in the year after completing summer training. Every year, the commencement ceremony for the South Carolina Corps of Cadets is held the day after the commissioning ceremonies. Approximately 35% of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets Class of 2019 are now officers in all branches of the United States Armed Forces.

More than 1,200 graduate as part of CCU's Class of 2019
Coastal Carolina University graduates are exactly what the world needs, according to commencement speaker and doctoral candidate Leigha Peterson. Peterson addressed the graduating class of 2019 - more than 1,200 students - during three separate commencement ceremonies at the HTC Student Recreation and Convocation Center May 10-11. "Whatever you are, put it out there," she said, "because it is better than good enough. It is exactly what the world needs!"

South Carolina Corps of Cadets commencement 2019
More than 500 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets accepted diplomas during The Citadel's commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 4 in McAlister Field House. About 35% of the class accepted commmissions as U.S. military officers in all branches of service just prior to graduation. Graduates accepted their diploma from Citadel alumnus Gen. Glenn W. Walters, USMC (Ret.), who was officiating as president for the first time. The top academic programs for the Class of 2019 included business administration, criminal justice, mechanical engineering, civil engineering and political science.

The Achievement in Athletics Award is given annually to graduating sophomores who have made significant contributions to the SMC community in the area of athletics. The recipients are given the award at the Awards Ceremony, which was held April 11 at Gibbs Auditorium.

UA Students Participate in Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Conference
Nearly 500 students at The University of Alabama highlighted their research and creative projects during the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Conference on March 27. The 12th annual conference is hosted by UA's Office for Undergraduate Research and the Office for Research and Economic Development. Poster presentations are grouped by research areas -- instead of by academic colleges or departments -- to align with national trends of using interdisciplinary approaches to problem-solving. The conference spurs interest in research among undergraduate students and helps students polish their communication skills, said Dr. Kim Bissell, director of the Office for Undergraduate Research. "We have got some pretty phenomenal students who are truly doing great things," she said.

CCU students elected to activities board
Eleven Coastal Carolina University students were elected to the Coastal Activities Board (CAB) to provide and organize events for students throughout the 2018-2019 academic year. CAB is a student-run organization that provides a variety of entertainment and leadership opportunities to Coastal students. Coastal Carolina University held two commencement ceremonies on Dec. 14, and more than 700 students were eligible to participate. Ceremonies were held at 2 and 6 p.m. in the HTC Student Recreation and Convocation Center. Barbara Blain-Bellamy, mayor of Conway, S.C., was the speaker.
